Looks like we are back. We took a year off but now the girls would like to get started again. This month we will be going to the book sale in Greer on the 20th and will post about one of the books we buy on the September blog.

August Books of the Month

We had a good time picking our own books last month so I want to try it again. As I didn't feel well the girls didn't get to post their choices at the meeting. Hopefully during this week they will come on and let you know about their July book as well as tell you what they plan on reading this month.

July Books of the Month

Sorry for the late post but with vacations and all I lost track of time. The girls had a sleep over at my place and we went swimming for our meeting. After reading their blogs, seeing they didn't say anything about what the book was about, I told them they needed to make me want to read their July book. So, with that said, July's book will be a book of choice for all the readers. Keep in mind this is a Tween/Teen club so nothing adult.
Please post your July Book of Choice as a comment to this post. If this works better then I think we will continue with a monthly Book of Choice instead of everyone reading the same book.

For our meeting this month, to talk about Maximum Ride The Angel Experiment, the girls had a sleep over with pizza, chips, and soda. The next morning we went to the zoo to see what it was like for the animals to have to live in cages. We decided it was a good thing the kids in the book were free to fly.

As you can see we even brought along a couple of future members for our book club so they could see what we do. We had a great day at the Greenville Zoo before heading off the park to have a picnic and play.

April Book of the Month

I can't believe April has made an apperance already. It seems as if the year has just started and the time is passing too quickly.

It is time for our April Book choice and it is:

Ida B. by Katherine Hannagin

Ida B. Applewood believes there is never enough time for fun.
That's why she's so happy to be homeschooled and to spend every free second outside with the trees and the brook.

Then some not-so-great things happen in her world. Ida B has to go back to that Place of Slow but Sure Body-Cramping, Mind-Numbing, Fun-Killing Torture - school. She feels her heart getting smaller and smaller and hardening into a sharp, black stone.

How can things go from righter than right to a million miles beyond wrong? Can Ida B put together a plan to get things back to just-about perfect again?

We had fun at our meeting to discuss this book. We went to the picnic area below the Library and enjoyed being under the trees and near the water. It was an ideal place since a lot of this book takes place outside.

Introducing the

Junior Geography Detective Squad

Matt Patterson, almost thirteen, likes to hang around with his friends, especially Guy Lombard. Not only does he like skateboarding and playing video games, but he also likes geography.

Mary Beth, Matt's eleven-year-old sister, joins her older brother and his friends whether thy want her to or not.

Jolene Ariette's name cropped up in the first book of the series since both Matt and Guy like her, but she keeps them both as friends only.

As the "geography Detective Squad" work their way through the different fifty states of the series, they accumulate "bonus" clues that will reveal five territories joined or part of the United States.

Readers should be aware of the bonus clues so that each reader can "guess" the identities of the territories: Washington DC, the Virgin Islands, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the Samoan Islands.

On 5 December 2009 Kehrstin, Paige, and Pat travel to the hometown of Elysabeth Eldering to meet the author. It was the start of Pages of Hope although we did not know it at the time. Elysabeth was very nice and answered all questions asked. She autographed a book for each of the girls, this is their first. We hope you all enjoy the book and we'll post our thoughts on it soon.
