Introducing the
Junior Geography Detective Squad
Matt Patterson, almost thirteen, likes to hang around with his friends, especially Guy Lombard. Not only does he like skateboarding and playing video games, but he also likes geography.
Mary Beth, Matt's eleven-year-old sister, joins her older brother and his friends whether thy want her to or not.
Jolene Ariette's name cropped up in the first book of the series since both Matt and Guy like her, but she keeps them both as friends only.
As the "geography Detective Squad" work their way through the different fifty states of the series, they accumulate "bonus" clues that will reveal five territories joined or part of the United States.
Readers should be aware of the bonus clues so that each reader can "guess" the identities of the territories: Washington DC, the Virgin Islands, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the Samoan Islands.

On 5 December 2009 Kehrstin, Paige, and Pat travel to the hometown of Elysabeth Eldering to meet the author. It was the start of Pages of Hope although we did not know it at the time. Elysabeth was very nice and answered all questions asked. She autographed a book for each of the girls, this is their first. We hope you all enjoy the book and we'll post our thoughts on it soon.

  1. Thank you for making my book your first of your book club. You need the second one now. Just let me know if you want a copy of it. I hope the third in the series will be out by the end of January and the fourth will be out shortly behind that. I've been told the 3rd, 4th and 5th will come out pretty much back to back to get back on track, so I must write the stories pretty rapidly now.

I also thank you for coming to visit me at the book signing. It was a delight to meet two such wonderful girls (and Patty too) who were interested in what authors have to say.

I look forward to seeing what your thoughts on the book are. See you in the postings - E :)

  2. While we discussed State of Wilderness we didn’t get a chance to add our thoughts here so Paige and Kehrstin will be adding their thoughts next week.

I felt the book a little young for me, but as a Great Aunt trying to get the younger generation interested in reading it was a great start. It was well written and the reader held an active part in the story. I learned things about this particular state that I did not know and think it would be a great teaching device. I also feel that parents who like to travel or vacation in a state different than where they live would benefit from these books before they venture out.

Thank you Elysabeth for letting us travel with out leaving the comforts of our home.

  3. Thank you for the kind words. Remember there are study guides to go along with each book, so that enforces the educational value of the books. There are discusssion questions or research projects (ELA, writing), either a science experiment or map/math skills or some other skillset pages in another part of the curriculum, a puzzle, and an end-of-book quiz (multiple choice, T/F and fill-in-the-blank questions). I hope the girls enjoyed the book. And I'll be at the SC Book Festival the end of February if anyone is wanting to visit me. E :)

  5. Kehrstin,

You are quite welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it. The second one is still available and the third one, State of Reservations, is due to come out within the next few weeks (I've been told February/March so hopefully it will be available the first part of March). The fourth, which my publisher says is my best one yet, will be available in the spring of this year and then they should be coming out on a regular basis, every three or so months.

I look forward to seeing what you all are reading and how you guys proceed with the discussion of the books. See you in the postings - Mrs. E :)

This book was a little kidish for me but I enjoyed it. If you like reading facts about states you've never been to, I recommend this book for you. I thank Elysabeth Eldering for signing my book and I hope if you read this book you will enjoy it as much as I have. :)

  7. Thank you Paige for those kind words. I hope children of all ages will enjoy the series. I'm steadily working on #5 now so you all will have a plethora of books to read from my series in the upcoming months (not necessarily for the book club but on your own). Keep a look out for State of Reservations and State of Altitude coming soon. As soon as I have a cover for #5, I will post on my blog. See you in the postings - Mrs. E :)
